Destined to be the Worst Mom Ever!

A couple days ago, the kids and I were driving home from school. I can't remember what started the conversation we went on, only that they were thanking me for something to which I responded by saying with a big grin "Aren't I the best mom ever?" (Note to self: never ask that question. It never ends well.) Here is how the conversation went after that fatal mistake:

Me: Aren't I the best mom ever?

C: No.

S: *nodding in agreement*

Me: *mock outrage because, I mean come on I'm great. Right?* What? I'm not?

C: No. If you were the best mom ever you'd let us do whatever we wanted whenever we wanted.

Me: Really? So, to be the best mom ever I have to let you do anything and everything you wanted?

S: Yes. That's why you're not the best mom ever.

Me: Well, I guess you are just going to be disappointed for the rest of your lives because it looks like I am destined to be the worst mom ever.

S: *sighs* yeah.

Me: So, if I were the best mom ever and let you do whatever you wanted whenever you wanted, what would you do?

C: *gets very excited--I seriously think he's thinking he's going to get this* I would get a ladder and climb to the top of the roof and jump off the side and....

Me: ....and break your legs? That sounds like a lot of fun. I can't imagine why I'd refuse that.

C: *still very excited* Oh, no I wouldn't. I'd put a big trampoline there and jump onto that.

Me: Huh. Well. I guess it's just too bad that I'm the worst mom ever because that wouldn't backfire at all.

S: *a very long drawn out sigh* yeah, too bad.

The Boy's Quilt

For their birthdays, the boys each received a big box of K'nex from their grandparents. They have had so much fun building new things. Each day, it's something quite different. Well, one afternoon they made a quilt. Yes, my boys are now quilters.

When we went to visit my parents last weekend, they wanted to bring it with them to show Grandma THEIR quilt.

Awesome, isn't?

Rocking Out!

My kids love listening to tunes while we drive. We've done our best to make sure they have an appreciation of the classics.

C's Favorites:
Green Day
Foo Fighters
Garbage

S's Favorites:
T.N.T. by AC/DC
Born to Be Wild by Steppenwolf

The best part is that MK totally gets into T.N.T. and yells "Oi!" along with the song as well as "explode!" at the top of her lungs.

MK just loves to dance around. And yes, she dances in her her car seat by shaking her shoulders and arms and head.

First Place for My First Quilt

I finally finished my first quilt. It took me forever and a day, but I did it and love it.
I made it for C. I named it "Stars of Glory."

Here is a close up:

Here is the entire quilt, well, as much as I could get with the camera:

Mom convinced me to enter into the Eagle Mountain Quilt show and I won First Place in the Beginners Category. WOW! At first, I wondered just how many were entered. Did I win 1st place out of 2? But, there were actually quite a showing. I couldn't believe it.

C was so funny about the quilt. When I found out it won, I told him about it and that we'd go and see all the quilts. Later that day, C called R and told him, "Dad. The quilt mom and I made won First Place!" Yes, he's taking credit for the win.

I've made a quilt for S as well. Same fabrics, just different pattern. I haven't figured out what to name it yet. Haven't completely finished it yet.

Don't worry. I didn't forget about MK. I've found an AWESOME quilt pattern of butterflies (her favorite) but in the meanwhile, I'm doing this pinwheel one for her.

I'm having fun with my new hobby. I've set up my "sewing room" in a small strip of house between the kitchen table and the back of the couch. I have to commandeer the table when I sew.

Yellowstone

I know. I know. You all thought I dropped off the edge of the earth. But I didn't. I went to Yellowstone.

We took the kids for a trip to Yellowstone in May. It was still VERY cold, but so incredible. R's dad lent us their RV and little car to tow. The kids did great and enjoyed all the sights and animals. The rangers gave us a paper for the kids with pictures of animals that they can check off when they see them. They loved that and being able to check things off. We saw A LOT of buffalo (including babies), deer, elk, eagles, bear (and her cubs), and even a wolf.

This is a picture outside our car window. The Buffalo roamed wherever they wanted.

Yellowstone
When we went to see Old Faithful, it was SO COLD. We could tell it was going to erupt soon, so we stood out in the cold to wait for it. MK was NOT happy to be out in the cold. She was tired and cold and hungry. She finally yelled "I don't wanna see it!" Then, she buried her face into my neck and passed out. She slept through it all. I finally put her down in her stroller as we walked around and went to eat. This is what she looked like:

Yellowstone
All you can see of her is her nose! It was so funny. She slept for a couple of hours.

We went on a lot of walks/hikes around the area. One of our favorites was the Artists Paint Pots and Mammoth Hot Springs. Here's a picture of all three kids at Mammoth.

Yellowstone

We had a blast. R took a million pictures on his super duper camera. The boys even took some and really got into it. Love vacations!
