Real Salt Lake Game

Where have I been? Busy. 

One of the fun things I've been able to do lately is go to another Real Salt Lake game with the entire family. We were lucky to score tickets to the semifinal game between Real Salt Lake and LA Galaxy. What a crazy game! It went into overtime where RSL sealed their win. Amazing game play.

During halftime, MK snuggled up to R. He's got a scratchy beard while he takes part of Movember and is rubbing her cheek with his whiskers. I love the look on her face! And, little stinker she was, she wouldn't keep her hat, gloves, or scarf on even though it was so cold and windy.

 

C had stayed home sick from school that morning. I wasn't sure if we were going to take him, but he was doing SO much better even if he didn't have a ton of energy.

When I told S we'd be going to watch the RSL game he told me "one day I want to be a real soccer player."

We love going to the games. So much fun. We'll be going to a lot next season as well--We got season tickets for the next season. 

Real Salt Lake

Last night, R and I went to cheer on Real Salt Lake. He was given tickets and food vouchers by his work. Sweet, I know. S was bummed that he couldn't come with us as he is a HUGE soccer fan, but so goes life. It was a midweek date night for us.

MK's First Soccer Game

MK had her first soccer game tonight. She has been so very excited. She played so well. She was running after that ball, kicking, and even scoring. She has spent so much time watching her brothers play soccer, basketball, baseball, etc. that she wanted her turn.

MK and her teammates decided to call themselves the "Red Lightening Dragons." Her coach even made up flags for the kids to cheer on their teammates.

MK played most the game. A few of her teammates didn't want to play, so MK played just about the entire game. She was loving it.  

Soccer Camp

This past week, S has been participating in a RSL Soccer Camp. He absolutely loved it.  He was always so excited to go and then eager to tell us or show us what he learned that day.

S loves soccer. When it was time for baseball signups, I asked him if he wanted to play baseball and he said "No, I want to play soccer." I had to talk him into playing baseball because it wasn't soccer season. I've looked into getting him involved in some of the local soccer clubs, but he is still too young: The age cut off for the youngest group was 2 days before his birthday.

Saturday, the kids and I went to see a MSL Soccer game between Real Salt Lake and the Seattle Sounders. Real creamed them 2-0. It was a great game. 

We had seats at one end of the pitch, but still could see all the action. Really, there aren't any bad seats in the stadium.

R wasn't feeling well, so we let him home to recuperate. He got to enjoy a quite home and rest.

A day in the life of...

A day in the life of C

C started soccer this week. His first game was last night. He now plays with the "big kids" where the games are actually refereed, players play positions, and in general follow the rules of the game.

C did pretty well. He got to play a variety of positions, and most liked playing the goalie. He managed to make a few saves despite missing only one that went high over his head.

A day in the life of S

S has been adjusting to having his older brother gone most of the day. I love having lunch with him and chatting with him--he's pretty funny. Today, he had some watermelon as part of his lunch. He seems to really like watermelon. What do you think?

A day in the life of MK

MK has had her nap schedule interupted by C's school schedule. This is her right before I had to wake her so we could go pick up C from school today. Let's hope she'll go to bed early tonight and not be a grump.

Last Soccer Game

Tuesday was C's last soccer game. R was able to come, since he didn't have school that night. C played really well and assisted in a few goals and came so close to scoring 1 himself. He really enjoyed himself playing soccer and is already looking forward to next year.

S fell asleep in the car on the way to the game--it's only a 5 minute car ride! We put him in the stroller, but he didn't stay asleep. I think he could sense action. He was his usual silly self.

In fact, after he ate all his snacks, he climbed out of the stroller and kept jumping up into my arms. He thought it was great fun. Once, I just barely caught him and had to juggle him a bit to make sure he didn't fall. He did start to fall, but I was able to hold on to him. What resulted was that I was holding on to him by his legs with his head down and arms almost touching the ground. He started to do a handstand walk. He thought it was great and wanted me to do it again and again. (I was secretly trying to completely wear him out so he'd sleep LONG and good that night, and it worked.)

After C's game, his coach called all the players together and gave each of them a soccer medal. C calls it his gold medal. Look how proud he is!

So proud, in fact, that as soon as he gets home from school he puts it on and wears it all day.

How was your week?

I was reading my sister's blog, who detailed some of the craziness that has ensued at her house this week. She finished by simply saying, "How was your week?"

Crazy.

Let's go back to last Tuesday--my birthday. I woke up the the dulcet tones of C and S screaming at each other. Oh, the joys of motherhood. After getting boys to and from school, feeding them, and trying to keep my sanity, we had C's Soccer game. I ended the day by making the boys pancakes for dinner at 9pm, eating mine over the sink. I was talking to my sister while I was trying to make "dinner" and we just had to laugh. She said it best when she said, "Just throw a vitamin at them. They'll live."

R was at school on my birthday and so the next day, he came home with an ice cream cake from Coldstone.....favorite flavor--Mmmmmmmmmint Chip. Yummy.

Skip forward to Friday. Our Stake has an annual Women's Retreat. I have never been able to go, and this year I told R that I wanted to go, so he got to stay home with the kids. Well, he wanted to go golfing. So lovingly, I found a babysitter...the younger sister of our most favorite. Poor thing--she did great, but can you see what's wrong with this picture?

Yes, folks. That's a cactus head right in C's flip-flop. Our boys LOVE being outside, and she took them for a walk through the wilderness next to our house. Who knew we had cactus? Unfortunately, the boys fell in the cactus, mostly S. Our sitter was amazingly calm through the whole thing and took great care of them. I just wonder how C managed to get home with these flip-flops.

The next day, R took the boys to a Utah Football Game--Sorry, Mom. Should have warned you to close your eyes to this part. Here they are enjoying treats during the game. I enjoyed the day by going to the Women's Retreat in the morning and then an afternoon and evening with just MK--doing absolutely nothing.

This week, C got to bring treats to his soccer game. He was so excited....until it started to rain. And rain. And rain. I told him that I hoped they didn't cancel the game because playing soccer in the rain is SO much fun. He caught the excitment and enjoyed the shortened game.

Today, I was rushing to get the boys ready for Kindergarten and Preschool. When I turned around, I found S looking at me like this.

People constantly ask me how I manage to keep hats on my boys. I started from an early age and kept at it. Now, S has to have a hat EVERYWHERE he goes. It could be pitch black out side, and he would panic if he doesn't have a hat on before leaving the house. I did manage to convince him to leave it before we left. He used to try to wear a hat to church....but we've weaned him of that practice.

And finally--MK slept through the night! Hallajulah! Do I hear angels singing? Or is that just my brain working a bit more now that I had a bit more sleep? I put her down a little after 11pm and she didn't get me up til close to 7am. I only heard her fuss once during the night, and I was able to give her her pacifier and go back to sleep. Let's hope this is a continuing trend.

Soccer

C

C started soccer last week. He has been looking forward to this for quite a while now. He got soccer gear for his birthday, including cleats from Mimi and Papa, a soccer ball from Auntie J, and mini goal and cones to practice with from Mom, Dad, and S.

He had his first game, and did pretty well. The games are pretty informal, which is great for his age. Each team had only 4 players on field at a time. C, as well as a few other kids, had to be reminded a couple of times not to use his hands. He kept saying that he wanted to be able to have a good kick, so he wanted to place the ball where he'd have a great angle. Nothing wrong with that logic. =)
