The Next Generation

My mom found a working sewing machine for $7.00 at the local thrift store. It is definitely NOT a top-of-the-line machine. It's all plastic, except the needle, but it works. And is perfect for a 6 year-old little girl.

The machine came with all the parts and works. I haven't tried to thread it yet, but I am hopeful it will work. This machine retails for $75.00 on Amazon. So, getting it for $7 was a steal. Way to go Grandma!

MK was ecstatic when she pulled this out of the bag. First words: "Can you teach me to sew today?"

I didn't have time to start a sewing lesson right then and there, but I didn't want her excitement to wane. So, I told her she could start picking out fabric from my scrap bin.

I thought she'd pick out a few pieces of fabric to practice on. Nope--she want all out and designed the quilt she wants to make.

Fingers crossed that the machine works fine and that sewing lessons go well.

The Utah Quilt Guild has a children's category in their annual Quilt Fest Quilt Show. Maybe MK can finish this up and enter it in the show. We'll see.

A Broken Sewing Machine

I'm so sad! My sewing machine is sick. Boo! I totted my machine to a local sewing shop to take a class on machine embroidery. We both entered the shop, but only I returned. Dun-dun-dun!

My embroidery module doesn't want to work. My teacher and I tried everything, but to no avail.  I've had to leave my machine with the technician...who is 2 weeks out.

So.....now I twiddle my thumbs and clean my house. Haha--just kidding! I've still have so many other fun things to do.

I am worried about my January goal. I don't think I'm going to be able to finish up my quilting with my machine in the sewing machine hospital.

New Sewing Machines

Look what I have!
BabcoUnlimited.blogspot.com - Sewing with Bernina Sewing Machine

I have a new sewing machine! Well, new to me. My mom recently purchased a Bernina 880, so she sold me her older Bernina 200.

I took a 4 week sewing class where I learned how to use my machine. I learned so much! At first I was only interested in the things pertaining to quilting--until I started to see all the other fun sewing things I could do with my machine.

I'm not the only one with a new sewing machine.  My mom bought this fun toy sewing machine for MK. She loves to get it out and "sew" along beside me while I am sewing.

I'm so excited to use my new machine. It is so smooth and easy to use--I didn't realize how much I was forcing and fighting my projects with my old machine until I started sewing with this new one.

I wish I had fun projects to show off, but I am spending all my time and energy purging and packing my house. Why do we have so much junk? I can't believe how much stuff I have either given away or thrown away.

Despite all my purging and packing, it hasn't stopped me from purchasing fabric for a skirt I want to sew for MK now that I learned all sorts of fun things.
